1995 Pee Wee Football Team

1995 Pee Wee Team

A Super Season To Remember

by Jack Brennan, PeeWee Head Coach

Looking back to the beginning of the 1995 PeeWee football season, the coaching staff and I were discussing ways we could improve on our 3 wins and 5 losses record from the previous years. With only having 16 kids signed up for the coming year, the consensus was maybe we could be a .500 team. Little did we dream!

After starting at 2 wins and 2 losses, we figured part of our goal was attained. Fortunately for we coaches, the boys had something else in mind, a chemistry would develop us over the next several weeks that would vault un into the playoffs. We won 4 straight games and drew East Shore Royals in the first playoff game. Keep in mind that the Royals PeeWee team had not lost a playoff game since Columbus discovered America. Well, history was made last October 29, 1995, and the Rams pulled off one of the great upsets in CFA history. When the dust cleared, the Good Shepherd Rams defeated the East Shore Royals 6 to 0. The week after, we defeated the Lower Allen Cowboys 7 to 0 for the finest PeeWee Superbowl Championship in Good Shepherd Football history.

The final scores of these two games do not tell the whole story. Considering we had only 22 players and 12 of these were actually Smurfs. Or starting offensive line had two seven year old players and 2 eight year old players, and we were the smallest PeeWee team in the league. Amazing!!

One of the major turning points of the season occurred at Boiling Springs on a very windy Sunday afternoon. We won the coin toss and everyone said we should kick off with the wind and put the other team in the hole. I've always felt in PeeWee football that the more times you get the football, the better off you are, and the first team that scores usually wins. Well, we received and ran the kick back for a touchdown. We never looked back from that moment on.

I haven't mentioned any of the boys in this article for a good reason. We were a team and all 22 players contributed to on common goal: "Have Fun". We did, and we won the Superbowl PeeWee Championship to boot. A special thanks to all the parents, families, and friends who supported and cheered us on. It was greatly appreciated. I will always remember this very special super season.
